Olympic Legacy Work off the Mark

Olympic Legacy Work off the Mark

Work has now commenced on the re-construction of 12 football pitches as ground conditions are finally dry enough to allow the grading dozers to start rolling. The site at Hackney East Marsh, a playing field for many decades, was used as the Northern Spectator Transportation Mall for all coaches, buses etc. to allow visitors to enter the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park via Eton Manor Gate.

Following a successful tender to Frosts Landscapes, Agripower Ltd in conjunction with Tim O'Hare Associates (soil & landscape consultants) spent many months on the re-design of the original proposal that would meet with the approval of both the client, the London Legacy Development Corporation and the end user, London Borough of Hackney.

The re-modelling of the subsoil layer is using approx.. 35,000m3 of material removed from the athletics warm up track which would otherwise have gone to landfill. Topsoil is being supplied by British Sugar and the pitches will also have a comprehensive drainage scheme installed. Estimated date for completion is in April given favourable weather, with initial light use in September of this year.
